Film of The Royal Anglian Regiment in Aden, 1965
By Graham Eustace
If you have 8mm film of your tours of duty, we would very much like to show them on the web site as we have done here. Please contact Martin Spirit if you have any such film to share with others.
The film of Aden you are about to see includes shots of Crater, Mallah, Steamer Point, the Mermaid Club, RAF Kormaksar and Radfan’s Thumier airfield and defence camp.

You will see armed Hawker Hunters, Internal Security training, a Belverder in full flight, 3 inch morters in action, a Shackleton bomber directly overhead; experience "leisure" time and see an infantry company returning down the Dahla road into Thumier complete with camel train carrying heavy equipment. See the scenery from the outposts of Thumier, hear the sizzle of fried eggs up country, become immersed in the rigours of the regimental system - sit back and enjoy – Aden and the Radfan are yours again.

The images were captured during the tour of duty of the 4th (Leicestershire) Bn, The Royal Anglian Regiment in 1965. It was filmed using a Bell and Howe, clockwork 8mm cine camera with automatic exposure. It is hoped the images will enable those who served in Aden and the Radfan to relive their experiences from 40+ years ago and, where appropriate, remember those who were left behind.

File size is 6.3mb, so movie may take several minutes to download. Movie will automatically begin playing when download is complete. You will need the QuickTime player to view this movie. If you do not have the QuickTime player, please click on the link below for a free download of the latest version.
