| The
film of Aden you are about to see includes shots of Crater, Mallah, Steamer
Point, the Mermaid Club, RAF Kormaksar and Radfan’s Thumier airfield
and defence camp.
You will see armed Hawker
Hunters, Internal Security training, a Belverder in full flight, 3 inch
morters in action, a Shackleton bomber directly overhead; experience "leisure"
time and see an infantry company returning down the Dahla road into Thumier
complete with camel train carrying heavy equipment. See the scenery from
the outposts of Thumier, hear the sizzle of fried eggs up country, become
immersed in the rigours of the regimental system - sit back and enjoy –
Aden and the Radfan are yours again.
The images were captured
during the tour of duty of the 4th (Leicestershire) Bn, The Royal Anglian
Regiment in 1965. It was filmed using a Bell and Howe, clockwork 8mm cine
camera with automatic exposure. It is hoped the images will enable those
who served in Aden and the Radfan to relive their experiences from 40+
years ago and, where appropriate, remember those who were left behind. |
