This photo shows a pier we passed, as we approach the pier, music filled the air, there were bagpipes and other musical instruments it was fantastic, and all of a sudden a HUGE roar went up from the ship and we cheered and cheered, its one of the memories I will never forget from Aden it was fantastic.

When we arrived in England on the Dilwara Troop Ship, we docked at Southampton, and 13th,14th,and 15th platoon of D Company of the 1st Northamptonshire Regiment continued by train to Quebec Barracks Northampton, where we started our National Service on 20-February-1958 and where we were demobbed on the 18th February 1960, I do not know were the rest of the 1st Northamptonshire Regiment went to. I can remember the first night after being demobbed 18th Feb. After arriving home from a night out, I got in bed, laid on my back, hands behind my head looking up at the ceiling and thinking how very very quite it was, no one playing a guitar no radio on, no talking or shouting nobody walking about, it was so still, I can also remember saying to myself I may never see all my soldier friends again,I have only see one that was Brian Gruby (Shorty) in London 1961.
