Mukarious Camp - Aden 1959.
13th 14th 15th Platoon, D Coy 1st Northamptonshire Regiment

Does anyone remember the cookhouse and Ammunition tents burning down in Mukarious Camp? We would be glad to hear from you if you do, please email: James (BSW Webmaster)

Is a lookout post with a Vickers machine gun on top of a hill where we were on guard at nights, and we had to have our overcoats on as it got very cold, but as soon as the sun appeared, we soon took them off, as it got very very hot. Just down the hill and out of site is Mukarious Camp, and past the Camp was Mukarious Airfield. Shown is Frank's Bren Gun alongside the Vickers.

I can remember if we were on Jankers, we had to run up and down the hill from the guard house to the look out post with full kit, overcoat, gassmask on, it was a long way, and sometimes a very loud voice would say "do it again ".

A tent from Mukarious Camp with a lorry in back ground, it might be the lorry that fetched the water. I think the gap in wall is the main entrance in to Mukarious Camp, which leads out to airfield.

Tents on left were the stores, the water lorry can be seen again,up the hill to the left is where the outlook post was, where the Vickers machine gun was,.and down to the right, on left side, was the guard room, and straight down to the end of camp, there was a wall running parallel, which was the front of the camp, it also had the main entrance to the camp, and out to the airfield, where we also used to exit the camp when we went on night patrols.
