Aden Song

sent in by
Mike Howarth
From my brother Jack Howarth's tour in Aden with 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own).
He used to sing this when he was on leave after his tour.
After all these years the last line of the first verse may be wrong Maybe someone else can remember it.

If anyone can remember the remainder of this song please email: james@britains-smallwars.com

There's a street down the crater that's in Aden
That I've walked along in every single way
Backwards, sideways and down on my hands
Praying please god send demob day

As we walk past the Arabs sitting smiling
Basking on a glorious sunny day
They no longer call out Tommy we love you
They just chant filthy British go away.

If you have a anecdote, funny story, limerick or song that you remember from your service, we would like to publish it.
Please send your stories or songs to James Paul
