RAF Luqa (Malta) for refuelling by Avro York. Having got settled
in my tent at El Hamra, got to work on the tyre ramp (which the new drivers had to get used to the sun and sand). Had various detachments to RAF Movements Unit Port Said, 128MU Abu Sultan (for closing the unit), RAF Abyad. Convoy to RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus via Port Said and Farmagusta on LST Charles Macleod. As the Canal Zone gradually ceased to exist (military wise), I was posted to MT Section RAF Nicosia in April 1956 whilst awaiting HMT Empire Orwell to bring me home for demob in August 1956. Happy days. |
