| Comments | Yes I remember very well doing my National Service
in the RASC from 1952-1954. Mainly working doing guard
duties and fire piquets as well as working doing clerical work
at GHQ MELF, our boss there was Brigadier Dove. Apart from
the flies, the beetles in our tents and the occational Scorpion, not to mention the ever invasive sand and the occational nasty
NCO, I enjoyed my time out there, but was always ticking of the days
left to serve on my calender. I am retired now and living in North Wales. I would like to hear from anybody who rembers me. |

| Comments | Served in Egypt from June 1951 to March 1953. At the start of the troubles about October 51 we were told that we were on 'Active Service'. We faced the Egyptian Army on the Treaty Line for several months and subject to occassional small arms fire. The army water filtration plant at Shandur was blown up and water had to be brought in by escorted tankers. Egyptian Army with tanks and heavy artillery confronted us on the Sinia side of the canal opposite our camp we lined the opposite side of the Canal with our tanks and eventually the Egyptians withdrew. The Egyptian Forces and Police received a campaign medal, I do not see why we should not. Our troop was attached to the Cheshire Regiment for several months to reinforce road blocks on the Suez to Cairo Road. |

| Comments | Suez was a fiasco and the way we were treated was comparable, and accepted, as were all Victorian Troops of the British Army. I am trying to get a
record written for the Heraklion Historical Museum
concerning the British Occupation of Crete 1897/1909 a very
similar situation as the Suez Fiasco with unecessary deaths
and suffering. My Service was at the end of the Victorian Era, or so it seemed and compared with all the huge sums
of money being won for stress related tasks - we should be
in line for a few million apiece! Keep up the good work - Ron
Phillips. Addtion 13th Mach |

missed a huge oil tanker, we just made it before the wash from the ship hit the sides, then on a Friday night we would go to Ismailia for our booze up and I missed the duty truck to take us back to camp. I had to walk for miles before I found an army post where they fed me and gave me a bed and took me back next day to face the C/O - got 7 days jankers. |

| Comments | Trained in L.I.B.T.C. Bordon, Hants. July - Oct 1951. Joined Ox & Bucks in El Ballah and seconded to 2 Inf Brigade HQ in 1952. Lived in bivouacs on platoon guard duties at roadblocks on Treaty Road. 12 hrs on and 12 hrs off or 2 hrs on and 2 hrs off for a 24 hr period. Christmas 1951 we all had 2 cans of beer each and straw palliases to sleep on. We were told that we were on active service. I have always thought that this was deserving of some recognition. Flew home in July 1953 from Fayid airport in Avro York to Stansted, had my cigarettes confiscated as I had too many, what a homecoming after such deprivation for 2 years. Spent the last week in Cowley Barracks, Oxford awaiting demob. Good luck with your campaign, I shall be speaking to Elfyn Llwyd, my local MP to solicit his support. |

| Comments | I arrived in Egypt from Korea aboard the HMT 'Asturias' in April 1955. As a young Sgt then I was interviewed at GHQ and given the 1st choice of a posting to the Trucial Oman Scouts. Being not too sure about this, I opted for the alternative and went to 1 Div Sigs at Fayid. The number one personality was the RSM who was a Jock and ran a collection of disciples called Zobie Troop (his personal body guards). From there I was posted to TeK. Travelling along the Moascar TeK road I saw an old tank at the side of the road. This was the marker for entering TeK camp. These are my memories of TeK, Blue topped caps of the gate guards, the open air cinema, the old American taxis, the dessert roses, flies, no women and counting the days to go on leave to Blighty on an Avro York. Sorry for being so long winded but this is the first time I have come across such an excellent site. Keep up the good work for the GSM. |

| Comments | After my initial training at Bridgenorth and trade training at Weeton I sailed to the Canal Zone in Oct. 1953. Stationed at the above R.A.F camps I
managed to enjoy a lot of swimming and sailing in the zone, before returning to Blighty where I served at R.A.F. Hornchurch till my demob in 1958. I would like to hear from anyone who remembers me or who sailed at R.A.F.S.C. Ismailia, Kasfareet or swam at the Blue Lagoon. |
