Information
Awarded to any person or group or category of people nominated by the Prime Minister.
This medal has two grades: Silver and Bronze and was instituted in 1980.
Each medal is numbered.
Description
Bronze or silver in setting, the observe of the circular medal bears the inscription 18 April 1980 over the Zimbabwe Ruins in Matabeleland, with the words Zimbabwe Independence underneath.
The reverse of the medal depicts a Zimbabwe bird rising from the fire.
Ribbon
Black central stripe, flanked by red, yellow and green stripes.
