I have it on good authority that given the number of high-ranking officers and decorations, it is probably of staff officers at HQ. (If I have "read" the insignia correctly, there is also a good number of Pilots and Observers/Navigators). The uniform indicates a tropical station. My father was in Aden 1954-56 ( a F/O at the time in Technical Signals). My "good authority" told me AVM Sir Sidney Bufton was C.O. from 1953-55 and had the CB and DFC. The person to the (photo)left of the civilian has these decorations and resembles a photo I found on the web of AVM Bufton.
This would seem to have identified the location and approximate date. I found a letter from October 1954 addressed to my father and a S/Ldr Hessey ('PMC') and F/O Hayes (Mess Secretary). They may be in the picture.
If anyone has any other information on it, and suggestions as to whom I could donate it usefully, I would be most grateful.
