Op Morden

(1975 - 2002)

Over the period 1998-99 there was a procedure to be followed to improve road safety, and help the adherence of the national speed limits. This was controlled by the Royal Military Police and nicknamed "Operation MORDEN".

Basically, when any journeys are made within the Theatre of Operations, vehicle drivers must report into the RMP dets along the route, where more often than not the drivers would be offered tea or coffee (especially during winter months). The vehicle's documents / equipment would be checked, along with the driver's ID and driving permits, and had to include the following:

AFG 8225 - The Transport Operations Record (Work Ticket)
FMT 3-2 and FMT 3-3 ( Road Traffic Accident forms )
    Recovery / Breakdown forms
MND (SW) / SFOR Route Map
1 x Jerry Can of Fuel
    Spare Wheel, Jack and Tools
    First Aid Kit
    Snow Chains
    Shovel
The time of arrival at and departure from each RMP station was recorded, and compared against each other to calculate average speeds.
A completed Vehicle Movement Certificate.
