I spent 2 weeks on this flat-bottomed ferry, from Ascension to the Falklands in 1983, rolling through the Roaring Forties, good fun as a lad of 20. Anything to get away from Germany for a few months!

Formerly the British Railways Cross Channel ferry the St.Edmund, she was chartered by the British Ministry of Defence in the aftermath of the Falkland War in 1982. Managed by Blue Star Ship Management Ltd., Liverpool, she operated on a regular trooping run between Ascension Island and Port Stanley.

MV Keren was withdrawn from the Ascension Island / Falklands troop errying service sometime in mid-1985 and offered for sale. She spent a couple of years moored with other vessels for sale in Fareham Creek (Opposite Priddy's Hard) until she was eventually disposed of by the MoD in 1986 / 1987 to the Cenargo Group. It is understood that she is now operating as the car / passenger ferry 'MV Scirocco' on the Almeria (Spain) / Nador (Morocco) service
