The battery's guns and transport went to Egypt upon the M.V.Egidia. They were accompanied by some of the drivers and other personnel.

Transferring from the Asturias to the L.S.T. Bdr Doherty started off a rousing version of "The Wayward Wind", the hit tune of 1956. Almost immediatley, dozens of other men joined in the singing until the steel walls of the L.S.T. echoed with the sound.
