The Letter Home
R.M.132181 Mne. A.D.Jones,
Dear Mum, Grandma and All, As you can see it is Sunday today. Yesterday I bought a tin of pears, a tin of apricots, and a tin of cream- I scoffed the lot. Last night I had a lovely hot shower and treated myself to a shampoo. This morning I got up early and went to Holy Communion on the . I had a good breakfast of bacon and eggs, and plenty of real butter and marmalade and of course hot sweet tea. So you see that I am all prepared to start a new week.On the whole the food is pretty good, and the weather is still sunny. Wish Grandma a Happy Birthday. I am sorry that I can't send her a card or anything, but I have no facilities for buying anything here. I have bought a lace tablecloth with Malta on it, to send home for Christmas. It is in my large kit bag. Don't worry if it doesn't arrive by Christmas as it is rather difficult sending things. My heel is better now, but it still hurts if I jump on it. Tell Patsy to be a good girl and to show some good results at school. I was getting really fed up with the training, but it is getting more interesting now. I am getting keener. Enclosed is a snap I had taken the weekend I went to Sicily. Don't worry about me going ashore as I don't go very often now. As for swimming I don't do much of that either. I only go paddling now and again but never alone. Can you remember the joke about the letter and and the pencil. Well I guess the joke is on me now. Tell Jimmy that I can hear the patter of feet running for their tots. Has he got any ideas about getting married yet ? Tomorrow is Guy Fawkes Day. I suppose that Patsy will have some fireworks. You can be sure that we will have our own fireworks show. I suppose that you have heard the news and read the papers, so you know how things are. Don't worry about me however as I am fit and well. Don't worry again if my letters take some time in reaching you. Even though the trouble is in Egypt it still affects our mail. Give my love to Margot and the kids. Tell Margot that there is something I need NOW that she gave me before I left England. It was only very small and I lost it. Well excuse this rather jumbled letter. Will write again soon if I get the chance. Keep your chin up Mum and keep smiling then when I get back I can help you sort things out. Must close now
