Excellent
I have just managed to obtain a copy of this book and looked forward to
reading it with great pleasure. I was not disappointed. I found this book very
interesting as I served with the Signal Platoon 1st K.O.Y.L.I. during the time that
the book records. Although I did most of my jungle bashing with "A" Company.
Certainly brought back memories. I was a regular.

Based upon a journal kept
by John Scurr whilst serving in Malaya and supplemented by testimonies
from old comrades and research in regimental and Ministry of Defence archives.
This book gives a detail account of the everday life of a private infantry
soldier during the Malayan Emergency. The hardships and dangers of jungle
operations, the close bonds of comradeship, the sudden fiercely encounters
with the enemy. The sadness when friends were killed and the joyous drinking
sprees in the
Malayan towns are all authenticaly
described,as in the alternatinglove-hate relationship that he had with
the army throughout his period of National Service
