Cover Notes
An in depth analysis with
first hand accounts. It doesn't pull any punches. I bought this book in
the hope that it would help me come to terms with my brothers death by
filling in some details and maybe answer some questions I didn't think
to ask at the time. It didn't dissapoint and has helped me come to terms
with his death. More

Excellent
Its gives a striking insight in the way restrictive control by the CO and the way it was tought in military schools almost resultated in a total failure. Only his death and the directive control kind of leadership by the Bn 2IC saved the day. It is a textbook example how two different ways of command and control work out in actual battle.

Whereas Mark Adkin's book "Goose Green: A Battle is Fought to be Won" takes the chest-thumping approach of showing how the British won the battle, this book takes the opposite stance and criticizes nearly everything that the British did during the battle. Fitz-Gibbon attempts to take away the near god-like status Colonel "H" Jones had become since his Custer-like death in the war. I believe his goal was to show how NOT to be a commanding officer. But also I believe he saw all of those "the British fought circles around the Argies" and tried to show more of how the Brits messed up the battle than how the Argies actually
stood their ground and fought.
