Cover Notes

Why was this operation launched against the wishes of almost every senior British Commander ? Why did premier Anthony Eden run such a personnel crusade against Nasser ? Why was the French military so much more therefore effective than the British ?

The British involvement in the military action to secure the Suez Canal from Nasser in the autumn of 1956 proved to be one of the greatest political debacles of the century, with repercussions to Britain's standing as a major player in world politics. In the light of many newly released government documents the author appraises the military campaign and the international backlash that it caused.

Reviews

Yahia Al Shaer rated this book Average
The writter documents the events of this war in a brief way. His first book ( Suez 1956, Operation Musketeer) he has written, has a much more impressing account of the daily battles.
I was expecting to find the same high qualitative documentary description of events in this book - similar
to the first book - but was not fully satisfied.
If someone wants to have a - quick - idea about what happend at that time, then he could read this book, otherwise he should read all the books mentioned in this chapter to get a deeper idea of the Suez war 1956
This rating is a liitle bit unfair, but legitemate in my openion. It should encourage the writter to add more details in his second edition.
