Comments
This autobiography is not
a detailed record of a soldier's life but rather a series of Chapters
of Incidents covering some 35 years of service in India, Malaya, Burma,
Palestine and Korea [where David Wilson commanded A Company 1A&SH].
Reviews
Colin Brierley rated this book as
Excellent
The Chief (Brig. Wilson) was a very modest/unassuming man. I was his BRIXMIS driver for a while. Unusually, we knew very little of what he had done previously. The book is a very readable account of a soldiers life in peace and war. A few of us, of all ranks, were priveliged to have experienced events which were quite outside that which we could have done in 'Civvy street'. Brig Wison's book, The Sum of Things, was a damn good read. The only complaint would be the photo's which he used, and I imagine, chosen by himself. They mostly depict a dour and unsmiling man, that is not the man I recall. He was a very 'human being', decent and full of fun, always with a smile and a cheery greeting, a pleasure to hae known him.
