time of the Suez Crisis. A highly experienced Forward Observation Officer,
expert in the direction and control of gunfire from offshore naval ships
against beachhead targets

He describes the assembly,
the training in Malta: the convoy through the Mediterranian, and ist meeting
with the American 6th Fleet:
the landing and the subsequent operations. He describes how the commandos
risked their lives to save Egyptian civilians under fire, how they moved
with lightning speed, and superb precision to secure the bridgehead and
' break out ' southwards along the Canal
He describes with timely
precision the advancement of 42 Commando through the main north-south
Street leading from the
beaches of Port-Said to Cairo
Clark tells of the anti-climax of cease-fire orders, and the subsequent policing of the area against constant sabotage and ambush operations by the Fedayeen gangs
